ESP on/off differences........

Default ESP on/off differences........

I was a little skeptical about the differences described in some posts between the way the TT drives with ESP on/off in normal (not performance) driving conditions. So I've been testing it these last few days in suburban (to work and back) driving conditions.
Yes there is a difference with my 225 coupe (build date, Feb 2000) but it's a very subtle one. With the ESP off, the throttle response feels different. The only way I can describe it that engine response to throttle input feels a little smoother and gear changes also feel a little better in the lower 3 gears.
As the difference is only small, I'll leave the ESP on for most of my driving.
Is there a technical explaination for these ESP on/off differences.

Default Unless you are doing hard cornering, accelerating and braking, you won't tell if there's a big diff

However, don't try this at home. You are in a parking lot merging into a busy street. You see a small space followed by a big rig. You punch it while turning right. Guess what happens when ESP is on. "HOOOOOONNK, SCREEEECH, CRAAASHH"

Use wise judgement when using the power. It does help with everyday driving conditions. I'd rather have it on too, but sometimes, it is good to know when to turn it off.

Default Theories include enhanced response since the DBW system has governing software taken out of the ...

loop and also the Haldex ECU being placed in 'reactive' rather than left in 'proactive' mode (for lack of a better term). With Big Brother off, the power delivery is able to go from initiation to execution by mainstreaming through less control protocols in the software increasing response time and "feel".
