Example of compression heating of air.

Here is a visual of compression heating of air. Compressor intake is on left. Compression ratio increases as you travel axially towards outlet. Air is heated from 75°F to 140+°F. Cooler looking standpipe is actually low emissivity metal.
P.S. White hot spot on left is bearing frying, bearing on other, hotter, side of compressor is ok.

Nice pic....thermographic inspection?
Pictures like this make it so much easier for people to understand how mechanical things work. Have you ever taken pictures like this of electrical connections? A loose connection generates a lot more heat and can be seen easily...can literally save you thousands of dollars in an industrial application. Looks like you probably do this for a living!
