Default Fault Code Please Help

VAG COM 1 Fault Found: 17545 - Fuel Trim: Bank 1 (Add) : Systems too Rich
P1137 - 35-00 - -. All help would be greatly appreciated. The CEL has come on 3 times in the last 3 weeks. Now it is time to do something. Unpluging the battery to eliminate the CEL is getting old. Thank you. (This car is still really cool).

System too rich
- Check oxygen sensor behind catalytic converter Page 24-128
- Check Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister purge regulator valve Page 24-147

Default couldn't it possibly be MAF also?

they famously throw system too lean codes when adaptation gets out of range, could be the same only in the opposite direction here.

t'was the case with mine. new maf solved the recurring rich code about 1 yr ago.

Default Could be anything with a VAG car :-) Just what the Bentley says to check first......

but MAF or vac leak could cause it as well.

Default ain't that the truth...

I currently have a known bad maf swapped into my car to troubleshoot a recuring ABS/ESP light with no code situation. so far it hasn't come back.

Default In dealing with my boost issue......

I couldn't believe the dealer told me that "no codes" no problem. So I disconnected the N75 vac hoses one at a time and drove around to see if it would throw a code. After a combined hour of driving - NO CODES. :-)

Default Yeah. Actually, you know what, never mind, I did the O2 at the same time

just to root out the problem.... it probably was the O2 after all.

But at 55K on the original MAF I figured it couldn't hurt.

Default I'm of the mind that a MAF is a regular maintenance item every 20K or so....

just too cheap not to.

Joe! I'm on my first maf - been swapped around a bunch through various housings, had water sucked through/across it, suffered through an engine rebuild, some crude-*** (joke, since I clearly could NOT have known what I was doing...) oiling of the BMC filter, chipped and 'stuff' and 45k mi's and no problems...knock, knock. ;^)
