Default A glitch!>

Getting more noticeable....haven't driven in 4 weeks but today I definitely feel an ocassional flat spot .....2nd and 3rd gear....but probably higher gears as well but harder to detect when rpm is not swinging fast.
One time for sure....
7Lakes Drive...nailed 2nd at ~3000...moved, then....flat..."pop" sound of unburnt gas through exhaust (like the overrun but I was accelerating, not deccelerating)...then picks up.
First noticed drive before last while racing S4...trounced him...but those low gears felt soft. Even getting on 287 in 4th...softish then zoom....certainly a flat spot.
Now it's getting noticeable...funny, after getting gas...and at the same Sunoco 94 station, too...hmmmm.
So, time to hook up Pro-Diag and "replicate" (we know the chances of it appearing when I can analyze the cause, right!) the problem.
First I thought lean...but the "pop" makes me think spark. Anyway.....no effect on boost level.

I'm planning on a visit to Danny at KMD for other stuff...I'll add this to the list...but I really would like to diagnose myself.
Any ideas as to the problem?

Default I have the problem of boost tappering and doesnt feel strong.

Nice power up till 4200-4400rpm then feels weak due to boost tappering. Changing out my diverter valve on Monday. Hope that is the problem.

Default boostt should taper off..especially at the rpm you mention...you may not have a problem>

my car shows strong boost even when in flat spot.....my issue is not boost related (I don't think!)....sounds like ignition / fuel issue

Default I have a TR6...modified...after installing and tuning a triple Weber DCOE kit>

I endured a flat spot from ~3,300 - 3,700 rpm (a very usable rev range for that car) for ~ 1 year. OEM distributer was re-worked to no avail....it was fine. But not for these water pistol carbs! After adapting a good ol USA dual point Mallory (they said it wouldn't work on a TR6!) the flat spot disappeared!...spark.......
Me fears it ain't da gas!

Default Could you send info on the Mallory?

My Neighbor has a '70 TR6 and is also having a flat spot issue like you described... I'd like to help him out if I could...

Default flat spots in my car were always the result of a dirty MAF >>

pull the sensor (and housing) place in a large ziplock bag. Pour the highest % isopropyl alcohol you can find (try cvs) into the bag -- zip close and agitate. Shake dry and let it sit so the alcohol evaporates.

or replace the MAF.

Default man...its been years>>>

I bought through Moss Motors (I think)...they claim does not work on TR6...think its sold for a Healey.

Talk to the guy there....the issue is you need to drill a hole in the shaft to allow for a pin (something like that). Agian, its been 10years.
Note, does he run a well modded motor? side drafts? If not, oem properly curved (via weights) and clean/lubed should suffice.
If you want to go Mallory....get a Moss Motors catalog...should be in there....Or Victoria British...or Roadster Factory (pretty sure it was Moss)

Default Thanks, I think he's got all those catalogs (as do I for my MGBV8)

He must be on that same distributor track because he has tried other distributors and has come over to my garage to use my drill press to drill out the distributor shaft to fit the offset drive pin. He hasn't gotten to the mallory yet.

Do you use the dual point set up or have you gone to a pertronix or other ignition?

Thanks
