Headlights Question

Hello everybody,

I am ready to order an HID kit to upgrade from the standard halogen lamps of our TT to Xenon Headlights. The dealer of the HID Kit has asked of what type are the current halogen lamps TTs have (not the ones with Xenons installed from the factory) ? He told me to be looking something like H1,H4,H7 and that applies to the low beam. I 've searched the archives but could only find out that the high beam is H7 and that the fog lamps are H3. But could not find anything about the type of the low beam. Can someone lists all types once again for TTs with no xenon headlights by with standard halogen lights? (low beam, high beam, fog lights)

I think it's H1 for low beam. You can get a pair of xenon light bulbs for $10 on ebay.

You are confused. The Xenon lamps you are thinking of are probably a standard incandescent bulb...

with Xenon gas instead of Halogen. The "Xenon" headlamps that are an option on TT's are HID (High Intensity Discharge) lamps that create light by jumping a gap between two electrodes with an arc of electricty. The gases (and other compounds) inside the lamp envelope help make the bluish white light. HID lamps require an external transformer,or ballast, to produce the voltages necessary to run such a lamp. Definitely NOT a $10 setup.)
