Default here is a boost question...

lately when I get on my car in different gears my boost seems to act funny. I have steve's boost machine and when I punch the gas in second my boost goes to 20 psi then falls rapidly down to 10 and holds around there for a little bit. This does not seem right. Also, in other gears the spike and where the boost holds is significantly different. In the higher gears the boost spike is significantly lower, around 12 or so, and holding below that. I will try and post a video or something. So, what hoses should I check? Or is it something more serious? TIA

Default You've got something wrong....>

First, ignore boost in 1st and 2nd. Not a reliable indicator of potential. In third and up though if you're only hitting 12 psi you've got sometyhing telling the ECU that something's not right. Either that or you have a fairly massive leak somewhere. A bad MAF will restrict boost....How old is that? ****? Also what DV

Default to add to steves question...is the boost machine up too high??? >>>

could be signs of soft limp mode too or you are right at the edge.....

If it has been hot lately, you may need to dial back the boost machine a bit....IMO

Default MAF= 2002(havent changed it since I got it in 04) Got your **** (i am stg 3) and stock DV.

I am going to drive my car right now to double check my numbers. Thanks for the quick response steve.

Default actually I ran the entire winter with my boost machine off (dialed all the way down) and now...

it is at maybe 3 turns if that.

Default I'd think about freshening up the MAF...>

They really need to be at 100% to work correctly with the MS3 set-up and degrade gradually with time and miles...

If you have no noises from the DV you're probably OK, but they rarely hold up this long to high boost conditions. I'd think about an upgrade there too!

Default At three turns..>>

It's probably not doing anything at the moment, which means the condidtion is there even at low boost chippped conditions, which points back to the MAF..

Default ok just got back from another test drive

1st gear spikes between 10-14 for a split second
holds at 0-5
2nd gear- spikes between 14-19 holds at 10-12
3rd gear- spikes between 15-20 holds for a second at 15 then drops down to 10 and keeps falling untill i shift into 4th
4th gear- spikes between 15-20 holds at 12-14
And my boost machine was dialed in at 4 turns for boost and 3 or 2 turns for onset.
with these numbers does it still point to a faulty MAF or DV?

Turn the onset OFF (ounterclockwise). You may be holding back too much pressure. Optimum adjustment is 1-1.5 turns or until you just feel it start to snug up a little.

Start there

Otherwise your boost sucks! WAY too much is bleeding off. More than we normally see with just a bad MAF...
