Default I was getting a flashing oil pressure light today...

after some pretty hard autocross runs when sitting idle waiting for the next run. It happened several times, but only when idle, anywhere from 10 seconds to 2 minutes, then went away. I did not get the light on the way home, or anytime after.

At the time, I checked the oil and it was topped off - I'm running Mobil 1 5W-30. It was very hot, in the 90s today... should I maybe use 5W-40? I have 98K on the engine.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Default I think most people use the Mobil1 0W-40 blend...

I always use motor flush/ C-Foam, and injector cleaner (Lucas makes a good product) for every oil change. A little Engine restorer never hurts for high millage too!

I would give serious consideration to dropping your oil pan and inspecting your oil pump pickup tube strainer. They tend to get clogged with bits of coke and residue. Either clean your existing tube, or replace.

You'll need:
oil pan sealant (D-176-404-A2) - $?
new drain plug (N-908-132-02) - $1.91
turbo drain pipe->oil pan gasket (058-145-757A) - $3.89
pickup tube oring (N-028-222-2) - $2.43
pickup tube (06A-115-251 optional, but cheap) - <$16
new oil and filter ~$35

It might take you an hour to drop the pan and replace it, more if you clean your existing pickup tube rather than replacing it. I'd recommend having a 10mm 1/4" flexible socket and an extension that locks the socket on tight to make getting the 4 oil pan bolts near the transmission easier. A piece of paper towel or such between the bolt and the socket should help the bolt stick in the socket and not fall out while you're sticking it places you can't quite see.

Cheaper to check then to find out you've had oil pressure issues and need to fix bearings or something more drastic.

I know this post is old, but where do I find the turbo drain pipe? I found the oil pick up tube at autopartswarehouse for $20 and the O ring for it for $2 so I'm assuming the top part of the tube on the site is the strainer. Can't seem to find the drain pipe. I'm having issues with my oil pressure light coming on and seems to be coming on more frequently when I'm going up hills or when I loose traction in the snow. I think it might be because of the colder weather, but I need to replace my oil pan so might as well replace the things you have listed and see if that helps out. I also purchases Auto-Rx for it to maybe help clean out some engine sludge. Help would be nice!

You can get that whole list from our site. For what you are looking for specifically, you can simply click here.

We can order everything from that list if you need. Simply put the part number in our search box and click "search."

You should put a mechanic oil pressure gauge on your car to verify oil pressure is good. You should expect about 60 psi with the engine warm at about 3k rpm. Consult the manual for specific PSI at certain rpm.
