Default Issues

Hello all, new to the site and Audi's, I just bought a 2001 audi tt quattro has 128k miles on it, I bought it knowing there was an issue with it now on to the issue, now on to the problem on cold start, climate control 49c says 121 temp gauge on dash says white line cold (when you turn the key to on position the temp gauge only goes up a tad before returning to white line) on the dash while car is running there is a +xx f where xx is a variable number and I believe raises slowly to 48 and then stayed stable while the temp gauge may have only moved an imperceptible amount, radiator fans on full blast from the initial start. From what I understand oil sensor was changed and then these issues started up. I know that I should get dash rebuilt but am hoping I can wait alittle bit an enjoy car b4 doing it.
any help would be appreciated

Read the "overheating" thread below to find out the real temp.

There is no overheating thread down below on mine but if you are referring to utilizing the climate control to go to 49c I did that and mentioned it in my first post, my climate control say 120 at cold start ie I didnt start it for a whole day.

More info I did change out my temp sender and that didnt do anything everything remained the same I picked up a cheap obd2 unit that hooks to your phone and the ecu is telling me that it was staying more or less stable at 188.6 f while it did get upto 196 f but returned to 188.6 I took it for a test drive to see what it would do and at some point my temp guage came back and so did my climate control dropped to like 90ish but when I stopped at a stop sign the climate control started to raise to 120 and when it hit 120 I lost my temp gauge and the oil light came on but my phone was still saying that the engine is at 188.6 f there about.

I have search for similar issues in the forums but I'm not finding anything that is the same if you can direct me to the link of one with same issue so I can resolve this I would be eternally grateful

In my previous post I believe I said the red oil light came on but I believe it was actually my red temp light that came on and was blinking at me

On my car, when the key is out of the ignition the coolant temp gauge needle is below the "C", and when you turn the key on, the needle rotates clockwise to the first white line on the gauge. Doesn't sound like yours does that. And you said the needle doesn't move after you've driven a while? If so then seems like your coolant gauge dashpod stepper motor is bad. Common problem on TT's.
If climate control 49C says 121 degrees when the engine is cold then change the coolant temperature sensor. That's the first thing to do. Also a common TT problem.

Here is the "Overheating" thread from a couple weeks ago.

I can't figure out what you mean here: "on the dash while car is running there is a +xx f where xx is a variable number and I believe raises slowly to 48 and then stayed stable"

Sorry still learning car, as far as the +xx f, I now believe that it might be the outside temp, I had originally thought it was 210 from climate control with the dash lcd telling me that it was also +so many degrees Fahrenheit.
i finally got the other part of the obd2 to download that gave me a bit more info and the program says that the temp sensor is grounding on g2 and the temp gauge is actually -57degrees or something like that, at one point on my drive around the block to test the car everything started working properly is temp gauge was in the middle an the climate control was at 90 but when I stopped at a stop sign the climate control started to raise to 210 and when it got to 210 the temp gauge bottomed out again and the climate control remains at 210. But even when the climate control started to raise the ECU was still staying at normal temp is 186-195.

Oh also the first thing I did when I got the car was to change the temp sensor even though it had been changed in 2017 (last true owner kept great records and left them with the car) when I changed it there was no difference, I wasn't able to get a true Audi one because there is no Audi dealers near me the closest one is like 2.5 hr away

The degrees Fahrenheit on the dashpod LCD is outside temperature.
You are saying that you drove the car and the climate control 49C was reading 90 (which is the normal), then at a stop sign it went to 210? I didn't know it could go up that high. I thought it maxed out at like 122C (but I'm not positive about that).

You said that the fans are on full blast immediately when you start the car. Is that with the air conditioning on or off? If your air conditioner is on, fans will always be on (but at low speed not high speed).
