Well...tore apart the B5 cluster...
and found that it will NOT work for our repair needs. It is actually so different that I didn't even bother to take pictures of it honestly. The unit that I got was a 99 B5 Passat cluster so that has no display screen/DIS/LCD, etc. Just the shift indcator display (auto trans) and digital clock/trip.
I'm going to try and get someone to send me a picture of a later MKIV or B5 cluster that may have internals more like ours. Probably won't buy it until I see the insides though (not much invested in this one).
So...the search continues for options!
