Lock/Light bug help
My 2001 TTQC has the infamous lock/light bug. From reading previous posts to this forum, it appears the problem is with a faulty ground in the lock module and that the fix is to replace said lock module with an updated one.
Well, my TT is due for its first 5k checkup next Friday. I live nearly 100 miles from the dealer, so it's kinda a day trip to do the service visit and I have to take a 1/2-day off work. In preparation for my service call, I have informed the dealership's service department of the issue and the fix suggested by others in this forum so that they could order the replacement lock module and have it ready for installation should they determine next Friday that my TT needs it. This way, they hopefully won't have to either hold my car ransom over the weekend while the get the part ordered for Monday, or require me to bring it back (another 200 miles round trip) next week when the part arrives.
I just called to confirm that they ordered the part they said that they can't do it:
1. They claim that there is no known issue.
2. The Audi corporate techs said that they need to troubleshoot the issue after my car is in the shop before they can order any parts.
3. They said there is no "lock module" that they can order, anyway.
If anyone out there has had the lock/light bug fixed and has their service receipt showing the parts replaced or the codes generated, please post them ASAP so that I can have my local service tech preorder the right parts.
I really don't want to drive all the way to the service department only to have them say that they found the problem, need to order the part, and have to hold my car until it arrives (next week), if this all could have been prevented by having the proper part on-hand ready for installation on the same day.
Thanks in advance!

and
1. Close the doors.
2. Lock the doors (with the power lock button).
3. Start the engine.
* Now the overhead lights don't work.
* Now the power lock won't unlocks the doors.
There may be other symptoms, but those are the ones that I've experienced before resorting to locking the doors AFTER starting the engine.
Thanks again for all your help!

Audi Techline certainly knows this problem. I personally showed it to an Audi engineer, as did LarryTT! That was 2.5 years ago.
Do you have any specifics about what parts were fixed and/or replaced? Part numbers, etc. would be most useful as I don't have the luxury of being able to get a different tech... small towns an all.
Thanks!

I'll be at the dealer later and try to ask the lead tech if he remembers exactly which one, and I'll pull my ticket for the work out of the computer.
I understand your predicament.

I've read the posts, I know the issue, I know the fix, but I'm having trouble proving it to my local technician.
What I need are specifics as to parts repaired/replaced, not just general tips like "it's a grounding issue." Unless I missed something in the 95 posts related to the bug, there's nothing specific already posted.
Just trying to minimize the time that my TT and I will be parted while Audi fixes this bug next Friday.

Print it out and hand it to the service rep. If they can't fix it from that (or won't call the tech in Florida) then you need to go somewhere else for service.
This is exactly what I did. I hadn't mentioned it until I showed up that day and they hadn't heard of it before, but by the time I left, they had done it and it was no big deal.
