Just bought a stunning mk1 2002 TT in a jag xjf French blue, drove like a dream, until the battery light came on and the alternator died therefore killing the car and meaning a recovery truck was needed to get home, has anyone had this before? Got a quote to get the repair done and £250, but just looking to see if anyone's had it and why? I've read about an alternator relay could it be that broken and not the alternator? Any help would be wonderful
I don't own a TT of any kind but I've bought a lot of used cars over the years. For a used car that's over 10 years old, the alternator might be one of the first things to go. That thing wears down over time and it does not last forever. Lots of things that can wear down in an alternator. So, no surprise that yours died.
BTW, congrats on your new (used) TT! That's a nice blue color. Stunning!

Yh that's what we thought, just wonder if anyone has had it before and if changing the alternator was enough, did they need a new relay etc, also it currently has a single wiper conversion kit on it, anyone know how to change it back to normal?
i had mine crap out. on a 1st date none the less lol. we were able to make it back to the parking lot where we met, jumped in her car and continued on. god, how embarrassing. turns out she was quite the girl though. she helped me change it the next day. had a friend drive behind me with two fully charged batteries in the trunk and would swap them out as the battery died.
i have the scan gauge 2 and set it to volts so i could see it dropping.
not that bad at all. i borrowed my friends garage and grabbed a 6 pack. new one installed and has been working ever since. i think i had 150,000 miles on it and now it has 165,000 miles.
