odometer rollback
hello all! this is my first post here, so bare with me, please. :-)
is it easy to roll back the odometer on a 2001 TT? I am about to purchase this vehicle, but it has a very low mileage for a 4 year old car (39 000KM - kilometers, not miles). and how can you check (visually) if anything is wrong? CARFAX reports this car as clean, with only 1 owner.
Here is the VIN, in case anyone wants the see the CARFAX record. (Keep in mind that the car is coming from Newfoundland and I am buying it in Montreal.) VIN: TRUWT28N511020064

Doesn't sound out of line, as Steve said.
And you'd have to have an inside buddy at a dealer who was willing to take the risk of getting busted for re-coding a new instrument cluster improperly...

Maybe it's just a lucky find....
When I bought my TT it was 3 years old and had only 16K miles on it. It was the previous owners second car and he hardly ever drove it.
Maybe just check for the obvious stuff like wear on he seats, foot pedals, steering wheel, tires.
Are you buying direct for the owner? If so does he seam trustworthy?

I worked at a dealership for a while and I know how easy it would be to mess with the miles if a person was well connected. Doesn't happen often but it can happen. The best way to check is things like seat and pedal wear but also clutch slip and steering play.
Having said all that the miles don't mean much. It depends how it was driven. My car is coming up on 75k but drives better than new. I've taken my car to various places and most have guessed it has about 30% of the actual miles that I've put on it. Did you see that video of the guy in the Mustang? He could sell that car with a few hundred miles on it and it would be a true reading of the miles without telling you much at all about what shape the car is in.
