Well...
just to give you an idea...
These are 7.5s with ET35 and 17.5mm spacers in the front and 25mm spacers in the rear.

I would try and get a wheel closer to ET32 so you can use smaller spacers and get the tires closer to the outer edge of the fender. Getting those tires out really improved the looks of the car and I think you can feel it in the handling too.

45 offset is not a good starting point......>
You'll need 23mm front and 33mm rear just to get to this point (which is not radical). My wheels are 7.5 wide too..(15/25mm ET 37)

I have 18x7.5x45mm wheels on my TT. They sit fairly flush with fender using
20mm on the front and 25mm on the back. BUT like Steve said...not the best offset to start with. I got them because I needed something quickly and they where local at a great price. Not something I would buy brand new.
