Default Problem starting this morning....

When I started my '03 225 this morning, it sputtered a lot for about 10 seconds and finally calmed down to a normal idle. I had moved it a short distance yesterday afternoon, so I assumed that may have caused an issue. This evening while leaving work, it did the same thing only very briefly, maybe a second or two, and began to idle normally. After I got home (about a 12 - 13 mile ride), the idle was not really sputtering, but more of a misfire sound, and was very regular... Maybe every 3 seconds or so. I have seen mention of coil packs going bad on here, but does this sound like a coil pack or a fouled plug? The car has just over 47k on it and is scheduled for a maint. visit this Saturday. I just got the car a few weeks ago, and my dealership is checking to ensure that the 30k and 40k mile maint. has been completed as the last thing marked in the warranty manual is the 20k maint. I plan on putting the APR 93 on the car shortly following the maint. visit, so I'm wondering if I should go ahead and put the Iridium plugs on the car, or should I wait until after it's chipped? If I should put them on before, do you think the dealer would install them, if they need replaced anyway under warranty?

Default If you missed he 40K check..>>

YOu missed the plug change which means they are original and tired. Just let the dealer do his thing if you're still under warranty. Specify you want the 40K service as that's a big one..

If they determine that the 40k has already been done, I'm guessing that would more indicate a possible coil pack failure? Or could it be something worse? The car has been running fine up until this morning.

Also, if the plugs have already been changed (or even get changed during this service) should I still replace them with the Iridium's after chipping, or will the OEM's work fine with the chip?

Default A check with the dealers VAG tool ...>>

Will indicate any misfires that may be coil-pak related. Chances are a plug refresh will fix things up. The iridims aren't really necessary if the dealer is going to put in a set of New OEM's. One common issue that causes erratic idling is the Temp sensor. If your car hasn't been updraded to the newer green one, this is a good thing to do. Prices have recently gone up from $6 to $20-30 but still a worthwhile upgrade for a car of your vintage..
