put the deposit down
Well, after studying the coupe/roadster scene for the last year and putting all the possibilities together (Z coupe/roadster - M and 2.8, SLK, Boxster, Miata, Vette) I put a $1K deposit down at my local Audi dealership. Ordered a 180 HP Q for estimated Oct delivery. Got the option of moving over to a 225 as they get more info at the dealership on details. Or, alternatively, going to a non-Q 180. Everyone has already reached the same conclusions but I have to restate them anyway. Best styling statement out there. Bold and beautiful. I predict more solid than any of the competitors. If you've followed the Bimmer newsgroups you'll know the number of creaks, rattles, little problems is pretty immense. If the TT is anything like my current ride ('98 Passat GLX with a 5 speed) it'll be great. The interior quality is amazing - just buries the Bimmers and outdoes the SLK (which is pretty nice but not in the same class). Haven't driven one yet so I'm extrapolating from the Passat and numerous drives in A4's but from what I've been hearing there'll be no problem in that regard. <p>Ordered Silver exterior (never have anything but) with the gray/black interior and all the options. <br>Benson

In your message, is the dealer pretty certain the 180 Quad will be available Oct. '99 ? <p> 1. Do you know how much is TT roadster's trunk space ?. I was unable to find that information as of today. <p> 2. When will the roadster be available in the US show room ?<p>I'm still undecided between the SLK and the TT roadster. <p>Thanks,<br>Johnny

My dealer had a german mag (Auto Zeitung) which has a comparo between the TT roadster and the Porsche 356. (what a stylistic kinship). They've got a shot of the trunk open in the TT. Looks like the trunk lid is equivalent to what now is the metal portion of the hatch. Volume looked to be bigger than a Z3's but I couldn't really judge how it compared to SLK. The dealer sounded very confident about the October arrival of the 180Q but I don't know if it was based on anything solid or not. <p>The SLK is a very nifty car. I decided against it partly because it doesn't match my desires as well. Why?<p>TT is gorgeous. SLK is attractive.<br>TT has an unbelievably high class interior. SLK's is nice.<br>TT seats are super supportive and perfect for my body. SLK's seats are barely acceptable.<br>TT shifter/engine are great (judging from other's experience here) SLK is ok.<p>On the plus side the SLK has the vario roof and can be both coupe and opentop. Much as I like the idea of an opentop in theory, in practice I prefer a coupe. But you may well feel differently. <p>Note the post a couple of lines above in which an <br>SLK'er is selling his car for the TT. Interesting.<br>Benson
