re-installing down pipe
I've read through past post and can only find speculation that it may not be necessary to drop the cross frame in order to re-install a down pipe on an 180 hp quattro. I understand it's not necessary on the 180 hp FWD but this looks really tight. Has anyone done this before?

1.8T down pipe is much smaller in size than TDI down pipe and I got mine in without removing the subframe. However, mine had to install from the top. You may be able to snake yours in the bottom, but i was not able to.

I just Installed a 3" Down pipe in my 2000 TT 180 Quattro.
I did not have to drop the sub-frame. Although I did think about it LOL . IT IS a TIGHT FIT but TOTALLY do able ..
It just took some wiggling and twisting and it went through.
I put mine in from underneath the car.
That bottom heat shield makes it a tight fit and might get bent up a little but its alright. DON'T break your new down pipe flex part by prying on it too hard LOL ..
SIDE note: Might want to get a little exhaust wrap to help keep your under-hood temps down.
