Default Really Torn

My car is scheduled to come in mid October, and I have no question in my mind about getting the car. I considered an S2000, but it's just too "Honda" for my taste. Nothing wrong with it in general, just that.

However, I'm really torn on whether to go ahead and plan on putting the Bailey in first thing and risk voiding my waranty, or waiting for the problem to occur, letting the dealer go after it for a while, and ultimately end up with either a wrecked turbo or a Bailey anyway.

Too many DV stories to ignore. Maybe I need to order my Bailey and just have it in waiting for that fateful day.

Default well

If i'm not mistaken, when the DV starts to go and you ask the service guy at your dealer to install the bailey for you, they will and it doesn't void your warranty. I'm pretty sure this is how it works as others here have had the dealership install the valve for them when they started to get the turbo honk. Who's to say that you will even have the problem though? i'd wait and see.

Default It won't void waranty, It's not that big if a deal, I changed mine in 5 minutes with a srew driver.

...It is unlikely to destroy your tubo even when it starts to go bad. The butterfly valve at the throttle body when closed at high rpm (as when shiftin)g causes pressure to rise quickly, the DV valve relives this pressure back up that would eventually reach the turbo intake side impeller and slow it down. If the DV valve is leaking it won't allow full boost to develop so power drops off. The leaking valve well still keep over boost conditions form occurring so you will have time to change it before serious damage is done (if this happens at all).
<img SRC="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/AudiWorldPics/2000/JIMTSIGTTFORUM.JPG"BORDER=0>

Default People need to know what a DV is before we have people waiting drop off. Its not going to wreck your

turbo. Its a EXTREMELY minor problem. For all we know, it might be already fixed in your car. Wrecked turbo comes from overspinning it or something along that nature. Our cars are so over engineered that you will never have a problem even IF you have a DV problem for the remaining car life. Octtober, I don't want someone who was waiting for a long time for a beatiful car drop off because of what we said. This is the ONLY reason I NEVER talk about the DV problem.
JasonC

Default My plan is to swap it immediately and anytime I have to take it to the dealer, I'll put in the stock

DV. The only way for the dealer to tell would be the different clamps, and you can bull**** that pretty easily. And you can reuse the bailey clamps so swapping should be easy.

Problem solved. (in my eyes)

Default I don't want to be digging around under the hood every time I have to stop by the dealer..

But that's just me. I'm just going to assume mine is fine until the problem actually comes up.

Thanks for the advice, though.
On Order: 2001 TTRQ, Lake Silver Metalic, Baseball Optic Red Interior, Premium Package, Bose, Est. Arrival October/November 2000

Default No DV problems with my car....

as of 3k miles. I have driven the car aggressively up to redline many times and have not noticed any strange sounds to date regarding the dv. Just wanted to show some interrested buyers that some of us don't have the DV problem. If it does fail Audi will replace it and if I'm still not happy can find an aftermarket solution. Not a really big issue for me at this time and I'm really enjoying everything about my car.
