RPM

I at leat 4-5 times a day rev my car up tp 5-6000 RPM in overzealous take off at stop lights. Does anybosy think I'm doing undo harm to the motor in my car?

I thought the red line on the tach is an indication that it is almost time to shift?

Audi's new CVT Multitronic should work as a neat basic course for stick shifting...

The new automatic transmission will only use as much rpm's as are needed for the occasion. Floor the throttle and the engine will go to high revs and stay there for the duration. Cruise along carefully, and the engine will stay at low revs.

Engine temperature is the main restricting factor. If it's cold, don't rev it. If it's warm, you can do what you like, you'll hit the rev limiter before you get in harm's way.
