I was at home in Alexandria; my wife was at the Library of Congress (across the street from the Capitol) this morning as part of a new job orientation.
After a long morning with no way to contact her, she called and eventually got a plan for her to get the hell out of there, hook up with a friend in Dupont Circle, and get to his house in Rockville.
As someone who works peripherally with the government's anti-terrorism training, I didn't want her near the Capital or on the Metro. It could have been a lot worse.
Interesting notes: I couldn't make any phone calls, but my DSL worked and I emailed my secretary in Pittsburgh to call our families around the country. A lot of people came together to keep my small part of the world together and they will get my thanks.
I hope everyone else was as fortunate as I.
