Steering fluid question....
I replace the long steering boost hose with some problems (previous post). There are no leaks so I backed the car out of the garage to wash down the undercarriage and had a awful noice coming from the steering rack. I checked the fluid, it was full, but a little foamy on top.
Do I just need to "work" the fluid in or do I have a problem????

Tried that a few times in the driveway, still making god awful noise. How
many times should it take? Also, it doesn't seem to be taking fluid. The reserve tank is a little foamy, but not dropping.
I have no problem going out for a drive, if I am not toasting the rack.
Please help!!!!!

Help, jacked up car, worked steering back and forth 10 times.. now I have...
both the noise when I am at full lock and a small screaching when I do nothing. Sounds like it is coming from the pump.
How could I blow the pump when I just changed the hose????? Is it okay to drive to my indie shop?

Removing air from system....
I just read up on "bleeding" the steering fluid in my Bently manual for my '98 A4 Avant. It recommends jacking up the front end and moving the wheels lock to lock 10 times WITH THE ENGINE OFF.
I did this three times, filling up the the fluid after each time. I then ran the engine and went lock to lock 10 times. No noise!!!!!
I highly recommend everyone doing this after replacing hoses, the rack, or the pump.
