Default Suspension Help

Hey guys, I know this was gone over a number of times on the old forum, but I'm having trouble finding it again, so maybe you guys would be willing to help out again. I have an 01 225 riding on 18s and I want to lower a bit. I don't auto-X it or race it, just street. But I am looking to get a more agressive look, stance, and improve the handling a bit. I want to add a rear 19mm sway bar, but I really want to lower it while I'm at it. I am working on a budget here, and I only generate an income during the summer as a college student. I am thinking about going with V-maxx because it seems like the cheapest option. Has anyone ever lowered without changing the struts? What happens, does it bounce like a mother or something? Could you guys help me with some advice on this one? There is a lot left to do to the car, so I need to get the best bargain where I can. Thanks guys.

I have started with springs only to lower the car 1.5 to 1.75". Handling was noticeably better and ride was smooth and you can't tell that it was underdamped. The only thing I can't tell you is how long the shocks will last since now they are moving at faster yet shorter strokes. But I cut my old shocks apart when I started building my suspension. At 20K miles of a lowered stance, there is no degradation of the internal parts.

However, I can do this route because I can work on my car anytime. If you are paying to get your car done, I suggest getting sport shocks along with the springs. Coilovers are overrated if you are only after a better stance and improved handling, yet maintaining a smooth ride.

I did the same thing on my '96 A4 too (just eibach springs at first). After 4 years, I installed coilovers, but the shocks are still good - In fact I gave them away to a fellow AWer and I think to this day, he still has it on his car.

Done...sold...finished. I can put the springs on myself, eventually I will get some struts and shocks, when I have more disposable income. Thanks man.

Yes, just springs, stock shocks.

More pics for you. These ones with my first 18's on

I didn't realize that I had the springs on from early 2004 to 2007ish.

As you can see, I'm on the bump stops but the car handles better than it's stock suspension because of less roll (ie more preserved camber, lower CG, etc).

Just get rear first to correct the additional negative camber that a rear drop will add. The front camber you can live with. Just have them adjust toe to spec.

I haven't heard of KMAC front camber kit for the TT btw
