swapping ECM

Is it possible to swap an ECM from one TT to the other? I'm considering purchasing an ECM from an 01 TT 225hp that has two APR tunes programmed into it to put in my 01 225hp. Do I need an Audi dealer to transfer over the Vin and AUZ number from my ECM to the new one in order for it to work? Can I do this with my vag com?

You can swap without having to clone if there's no immobilizer

you can only swap like ECUs anyway and there were three possibilities for 2001 225s, no ESP, ESP but no immobilizer and ESP with immobilizer. Basically if both cars are T or AT boxes then they should directly swap. If they both have K boxes you'll need to clone for the immobilizer. If each one is different they aren't compatible at all.

How do I know which box I have? Is it as simple as if both cars have the esp switch between the hazard and passenger seat heater switch then we have the same ECM box?

Do you have an immobilizer light in the cluster. My 2001 does.

Your Vag will tell you the type of ecu

for example in my C:\Program Files\VAG-COM\Logs\ dtc-01.txt it shows the ecu number right away as a "T"

similar situation

So I'm in a similar situation. I have an AT box and a dealer on ebay has a K box and both have the immobilizer, they are telling me that theirs will work without any issues. Is this the case or should I find an AT or T box.
