Default Throw me a bone...

After a somewhat lively downshift this morning (6th to 4th at 70mph) I've developed a rattling vibration driver's side of center when I accelerate. I can feel it somewhat on the dead pedal. On a scale of 0-5, 0 being none and 5 being the worst I've heard, it goes something like:

1st gear:
Sub-800 RPM - 2
801-1300 RPM - 3
1301 - 1750 RPM - 5
1751 - 1999 RPM- 2
2000 and up RPM - 0

2nd
1301 - 1750 RPM - 3
1751 - 1999 RPM- 2

There is no loss of power, no slippage, no problems getting into gear, and shifting feels slightly notchy as per normal. When I keep the RPMs above 1700 from stand still, there's no vibration at all. I would say at times when cruising the vibration is only present during moderate acceleration. My searching thus far points to perhaps the dog bone but I've yet to do a visual (no jack stands at work). In my mind, all of this points to the presence of torque.

Can dogbone mounts just snap? Any input?

visually check all the engine mounts and check all their bolts for torque.

I've done the coin thing, the vibration is bigger than that

Default Good call...I'd just started including those in my search...

When I found this in MarTT's fotki...

<img src="http://images115.fotki.com/v670/photos/4/435091/4319845/DSCN8720-vi.jpg">

That'll be the transmission mount underneath the air filter housing from what I gather.

Default Any chance you could have missed the 4th gear gate and tried 2nd?

The syncros will try to spin the disengaged disc up fast enough for the gears to mesh. If you try a gear too low for the car's travel speed, this CAN spin the disc up faster than it is designed to withstand, and damage or even explode it. (please don't ask me how I know this) On a positive note, 70 mph 6th to 4th is certainly not extreme (or even "lively"). even if you were to engage 2nd at 70 mph the disc would probably be at maybe 8000 rpm or so and should withstand that. Now missing 3rd and hitting 1st gear synchro while traveling at 90 to 100 mph, That will blow one right up.
One other positive in your description is normal feeling clutch engagement and disengagement. Doubt you would have that if the disc were giving up.

Default also consider their age....mine collapsed>>>

and did not even know it. It was not until my 22mm front sway bar was put in, that we realized that the motor was sitting low. It rubbed on the bar..

With your mileage if it has not been done, then it is probably time.

Default No...

It was only lively because I took it up much higher than 2nd would allow for. Normally I tend to leave it in 6th for MPG purposes. On a positive note, my tank average this year is around 400 per 14.3 gallons.

I have a feeling that GorTT is going to be the winner on this one. Seeing where that mount sits in relation to where I'm feeling the vibration gives his guess about 95% accuracy. I can only hope it's loose as opposed to broken...though I feel it'd probably feel much worse.

Default I had my shop check them out when I had the suspension installed...

Apparently they looked like new at that point so I opted to wait until 120K.

Here's hoping it's just something loose...I'd just hate to mod something else before spring.(kinda sorta hate to anyway)
