Default Tool Help

I am just getting started with my first mod's it has been years since I turned a wrench. Back then it was on old *****'s jeeps and 60's era muscle cars.
I have long since lost all my tools, where should I start? Anybody know of good package deals? What's important to have?

Default i am always poking around sears for sales>>>

make a monthly commute there to pick, tool of the month...
good place to start is a nice 200pc socket set...
then some deep metric sockets are good for the TT....
box ends....screwdrivers...and assorted starter stuff..
Do a project on a car, you will start to note a pattern! ;-)

Just my 2 cents!

Default sadly, a lot of the sears stuff seems to be junk these days. i've lost count ...

of how many of their ratchets i've had break on me, and the fact that they have a refurb ratchet display right next to the cash register at my local sears indicates that my experience isn't unique.

Default my older craftsman tools are rock solid. but the newer stuff...>

from the last couple of years has not been the same. I have broken several newer items and it is disconcerning. I have a crafstman double stack roll-around filled to the gills so it is difficult to even type it out.

Default i agree. even the craftsman 3/8" torque wrench i have slips. the ratchets i

use are snap-on. i've had a 1/4" one for 20 yrs and a 3/8" socket set for 5 yrs. no prob and they hold up very well. all you need is one good set that should last years.

Default Hmmmm, you do know that ratchets are not for breaking fasteners loose>>

just turning them. The only time I've broken a Sears ratchet (1/2in drive, flex handle) was due to doing something stupid-- i.e. breaking loose an axle bolt with the ratchet rather than a non-ratcheting flex handle or breaker bar.
