Default Trip 'computer'

Never had an AUDI, never had a 'trip computer', other than an odometer. What does this thing compute. Velocity variance? Angle to Gyor? Are these things gimmicks or the real deal?
There is a well-known audiophile tradition of having as close to zero readouts and as few ***** on components as possible. Hey, you're gonna listen, right? What you can't hear don't matter.
My predisposition is to set up the TT the same way: minimalist, nothing between driver and drive but car.
I don't want heated seats; I don't want the extra ***** for heating the seats. But this trip computer is a mystery to me.
Any opinions?
Thanks in advance,
Mike

Don Pavlik (sp?) maintains a site called the Audi Zone which contains a lot of information on the A4. One of the pages he put together shows all the functions of the trip computer (the A4 and TT contain the same functionality). The link is below:

Audi Zone -- Trip Display Information

Default Heated Seats

I like the idea of warm seats,,,, But I am surprised that e few of you don't go for them.
Do most of you live in California or warm weather states?
Rik

People here talk about heated seats being a bad thing. Cant you just turn them off? If so, why is it such a big deal? Just a question from a future TT owner.
-Kean

I like the trip computer (and I like the heated seats) but, based on your minimalist approach, I'm sure you'd be happier without it. It gives outside temperature, time and distance travelled, instant and average mpg and miles to empty, and has a few other gimmicks.

Living in Houston, I'd rather have "cooled seats". My wife's minivan has the same functions on her trip computer. I already know what the weather is outside, I know that when I punch the throttle, I'm getting poorer milage, and I can look at the fuel gauge to tell me when I'm going to run out of gas. Didn't opt for this option.

I also live in Houston and had no interest in the Comfort Package. However, I was told that I had no choice with the first arrivals. I changed my mind really quick.
