Default tt problems?

I am the service manager at Don Mcgill Porsche/Audi in Houston, and I don't know what to tell you about "all the problems" with the TT. I
have only had 1 (read one) in for any problems..an instrument cluster that would illuminate, but the guages would not function. We have delivered ten TT's so far, and this is the 1st one to come back with any problems after delivery! During dealer prep we found a stress crack in 1 windshield, and had to repair a connector on a power window. Yes this is unlike Lexus, but better than when I was with BMW where allmost every vehicle coming off the transport needed repairs before we could sell the cars! I am so worried about the quality of the TT, that I feel really good about my TT quattro that is on order(the 1st in Texas) that I wish it was here now!

Default Steve, thanks for stepping forward and giving us info. more...

Your remarks and level of expertise is very important. I don't think any of us expected perfection. I hope you will drop in here more often and give us your thoughts...not as an official rep of Audi...but simply as a man who had knowlegde and experience. Often a problem seems larger than it is...and on that point your advice can be very helpful. I had a problem with my A4...the check engine light came on after a quick start, turn off, start again. It appears that the OBD II is very sensitive and didn't like that. After a call to my dealer, I was told I could drive the car down there. They reset the computer and I was on my way. But the new cars shut out the shade tree mechanic w/ his hair pin and hope. So no more then ever, we need guidence from people who have solid facts.
Again, thanks.
John Ireland

Default Re: Instrument problem

I had a similiar problem with my gages. The dealer replaced the instrument cluster. I'm not sure the problem has been fixed. Three days ago when I went to start the car I found that the clock and calendar, avg. mph, avg. mph, trip odometer and reset clock had all reset. I suspect that I lost instrument power during the night. How did you fix the problem for the one car you had with a similiar problem?
I am concerned that there is a problem with the wireing harness between the fuse block and the instrument cluster. My dealer seems to be at a loss as to what to try next.
Steve, I believe that you have read my mind. We have delivered five and have yet to have any problems at all. It's easy to get misled into thinking there are lots of problems with these cars, but you have to remember that there are a lot of TT owners on this forum and nobody is shy about airing their feelings about the reliability of the car good or bad. Actually this is a good thing for people like you and I because it kind of gives us the opportunity to keep a finger on the pulse of TTism and allows us to be proactive when problems arise. Thanks for your thoughts.
Jason Dale
Audi Technician
Ken Garff Motors
Provo, UT

ENDED UP BEING A POOR CONNECTOR AS YOU SUSPECTED! WE ENDED CLEANING THE HARNESS CONNECTORS, AND USING STABILANT 22 TO KEEP THE CONTINUITY THROUGH THE TERMINALS/CONNECTOR.
