Default TTS engine, clarification...

Brad reported that it "will effectively employ the same mechanicals as the VW Beetle RSi show car which debuted at the Detroit Auto Show in January."

In the same post he wrote "it is believed to be the same 2,7-litre, twin-turbo V6 power unit already employed in the latest-generation Audi S4."

This reads as if for some reason the TTS will NOT have the Beetle RSi engine, which is designed for transverse mounting, and instead use an engine that so many sources believed could not be made to fit in the TT?

Default Marius. Any engine could be made to fit - but at what engineering cost?

Modify bulkhead, floor pan, transmission mounting etc. THEN fit ancilleries and modify hood, make sure it can keep cool. Then make sure the thing handles OK after all the mods, and re calibrate suspension as necessary. Audi would certainly not skip the handling shake down tests after last episode. What do you think.

Maybe a better route would be to make roadworthy the ABT v8 racer - which is a different car wearing a set of light weight lookalike tt panels. Again cost and time?

Most likely still is transverse ready V5/V6 turboed up imo. Mention of this goes back at least 18 months from interview with Audi boss (i forget his name - Piesche i think)

There was a taste of how such car may go in UK Car August with test of S3, V6 motion and Impreza.
A few have mention lack of power after 140 kph in 225s TT. Car mentions that 1.8 S3 (210bhp for marketing dept) "has to work much harder than 2.8 V6 (205 bhp) after 80 mph to stay with the Golf"

Golf is heavier and worse handling.

BTW Good to see you post again amongst all the noise and repetition on forum.

Default Huntter, I was hoping to have Brad's comment on the ambiguity of "using the RSi mechanicals" AND ...

doing the radical RS4 conversion, when the RSi engine also is a bi-turbo V6 and has larger displacement.
