Update on instrument cluster problem and now all wheel drive problem
I am sorry if this is a redundant post but please help. The speedometer, tachometer, fuel gage, and temp gauge are not working on my 2000 TTQ 180hp with 29,000 miles. Also when you turn the headlights on the cluster does not light up and the radio backlighting, backlighting for the heated seats, and rear defogger does not come on. The idiot lights do work on the cluster as well as the chime. The radio and heated seats work, the round dots will come on for the heated seats and the channel shows for the radio but no backlighting. Oddly enough (and I don't know if this is related) I cannot turn the fog lights off either when the headlights are on. They still go off automatically when the high beams are turned on. I have checked the fuses and they are OK and I have removed the cluster and the connections seem to be OK. I have had the cluster replaced 4-5 times, mostly under warranty but I did pay for it myself once. Oh also the mileage doesn't show and the outside temp is stuck at - 0.0 C. I would assume it was just the cluster if I didn't have the other problems. Does anyone have any ideas? Thank you in advance! -Joe
Follow up: As a couple of members suggested, I have replaced the battery which was weak. I have no aftermarket radio mods etc. The only thing the new battery fixed was the issue with the fog lights. The instrument cluster and other backlighting is still not functional and I have also noticed that the one touch auto/ up down feature is not working on the drivers side window only. Also and I don't know how this could be related but there seems to be a problem with the Quattro AWD. If I accelerate hard in first gear it feels like the front tires are slipping or the clutch is slipping. The car does not make enough power to break all tires loose and the Quattro system should transfer power to take care of any slippage right away if one or two tires break loose. So I decided to do a test. I floored it from a standing start and did about a car and a half burnout. This never happened before so I think the AWD is not sending power to the rear wheels. Does anyone have any ideas on either of these two problems? I can repair the problems myself I just have a lot of difficulty diagnosing them. Thanks fellas!
