Default wheel source

Hi all. I usually just read the posts but have a question. I really like the 9spoke tt wheels and would like to upgrade from my 6spoke factory wheels. Whats a good source? The local dealer quoted about $1500 as I recall back when I bought the car. I see outfits on ebay with good prices, closer to $800 for "replicas". The Wheel Exchange seems to have a lot for sale. But if the product stinks the price is irrelevant. Any suggestions where I find factory quality without paying full retail? Thanks much! tc 225QC denim blue

Some replica's are soft...which means bent rims...

Default dealer quoted $1500 each or for 4?

If it's $1500 for 4 for OEMs then that's a steal. You can get OEM RS4s from Clair Parts for $666 each:
clic k for details

As for replicas, the ones from Hartmann are good. Better quality than the ones from Wheel Exchange. There are a number of members here running them (meem, AU-297 among others). You should ask meem about how well they hold up, since he's running the 19s for winter.

Default Re: dealer quoted $1500 each or for 4?

It was the salesman when I bought the car. I asked about the wheels and he said it was another 1500 or so. I just went to the audi site and they're about 800 each (18in) so I would say he was nuts, or giving me a nice trade in on the wheels the car came with. A set of four from the wheel exchange is about 800 total. But if they are in fact soft and easy to bend I don't want them obviously. thanks, tc

Default Buying the wheels at the time of purchase vs. >>

afterwards, from the parts department, are two completely different things, for a variety of reasons, not the least of which being you're mainly just paying the "difference" for the "upgrade." Kind of like checking off the "auto transmission" option-- they don't give you the manual gearbox that was standard, too. Try to buy a new automatic transmission + all the associated components for a car from the parts dept-- you'll find it's a whole lot more than the price listed on the options sheet.
