Default Yet Another Chip Question

I've mentioned to a few friends that I was thinking about getting my ECU flashed with REVO software. I explained briefly what it does, and the question comes up "Why doesn't the car come that way?" And I really don't have an answer to that question. My car is approaching 67k miles, and the only aftermarket parts I have are a K&N drop in filter and a Forge DV. I'm having difficulty believing that REVO software (or any ECU modification) won't eventually cause damage to the engine in some shape or form. I'm guessing you really need to add a new air box, new exhaust, new manifold, etc in order to make sure that your engine is able to handle the increase in power?

You are worried about the wrong things. By the chip and drive it like you stole it.

Default the chips really on tap the surface of what the 1.8t is capable of. matter of fact>>

the quattro sport that audi just released overseas is nothing more than a lighter car with a chip upgrade.

all cars are detuned from the factory to ensure that each car will be reliable to the "average" driver.

sure, if you chip it and WOT all the time, increased engine wear will be the result. However, the 1.8t has proven itself to handle considerable amounts of power without any real issues.

Like any car, if you be nice to the car and respect it. The car will respect you. If you drive it like a bat out of hell all the time, no car will put up with such abuse long.

A chip wont hurt it. Detuning is an industry wide thing on sports and upper end cars. That's why there's such a big aftermarket market.

Default not necessarily.....

There are plenty of people who have just a chip without any other major mods.....And there are also people here who have been running chips for tens of thousands of miles without any difficulty at all.

The engine will handle the chip fine without an exhaust, manifold or airbox. However, you will increase your performance by adding said mods.
