Default TT mmi / nav retrofit?

anyone know if it's possible to replace the stock audi symphony stereo head unit with the OEM nav system? if so, is it plug and play, and what is the approximate cost?

Its completely plug and play, you pop out the symphony and just plug in the RNS-E, no adapter nessesary. The only slightly difficult part is placing the GPS antenna, but you can pretty much put it anywhere under the dash.

I did it in my 08 TT, and 05 A4 before that, the entire process takes 15 minutes.

Default If I didn't have the nav+ built-in... I'd probably be looking at some aftermarket units....

I say this because I've done it two different ways.. in my S4, I bought the car with every option BUT nav+ and bose because the system sucked in the B7's.... I ended up doing a complete system overhaul and got waaaay more into the project than I would have liked, including a totally custom faceplate to go with the interior. Even though I love the system I put in, when it came to buying the TT, I just overed it with nav+ and bose and in the TT, it's a lot better than it was in the S4... However, if I had seen some of the upgrades that are available today. Aftermarket units are always going to have more functionality and be cheaper than OEM units... The thing is, usually you sacrifice the look of that OEM unit.. Well, in the UK anyway, there is actually a double-din faceplate made JUST for the MkII TT's... and for about $1000 you can get a great Pioneer unit which is touchscreen and would also play dvd movies... That and, now there are can-bus adapters to make the install super simple as well. If I knew about these faceplates at the time I ordered the TT, I wouldn't totally revamp the sound system... but I would just replace the headunit...

...From someone who's seen both sides of huge system overhauls... I'd regret at least not pointing this out so you could decide one way or the other without finding this out later and regretting it yourself..

Default ...that's why I'm telling you there are some sweet and EASY setups for TT's right now...

This below is one of the new Pioneer Nav units... personally, I have always liked Pioneer's Navigavation and the new units are smaller, better, with a ton more stuff... and in these pictures you can also see the whole new faceplate that's available for TT's... which makes things a lot better looking. Installing just a headunit, which the faceplate is already taken care of is fairly straight forward.... and for me, the only thing I might do to this unit is either have the faceplate for the whole center section painted up in a gloss black to match the headunit and give it that personalized look.... or actually remove the face of the headunit and scuff it up and paint it a matte black to match the car... Otherwise, perfect... I could give you some pointers if you want to go that way you could always just shoot me an email. The pictures below are from the UK forum.. a LOT of TT's are sold there and a LOT of those guys go with aftermarket Nav systems...

Here's what I think is a worse faceplate but this Pioneer is actually more matte...:

These faceplates however look amazing and they're not custom made..:

Default okkkk

You're looking at probably:

$40 for the TT faceplate
$30 for the can-bus wiring adapter
$650 for the Pioneer F700BT (that's the one that's black black)
$900 for the Pioneer F800BT (plays dvd movies and more features than the 700)
