Upshift causes a "pop" or "snort" sound at high rpms

Default Upshift causes a "pop" or "snort" sound at high rpms

Hi everyone,

New 2011 TTS owner here and absolutely loving it so far!

Had a question about a rather loud pop or "snort" sound that happens when I accelerate hard. Seems to happen when upshifting at rpms above 4k or so... otherwise upshifting is virtually silent during normal everyday driving.

Is this normal behavior?

I noticed the burble right away on my first TTS test drive. Can also be heard at lower RPM shifts if you listen for it. Salesman smiled & told me it was a very deliberate, engineered in "feature". He was, though, a salesman.....

I actually kinda like it.

Yup, purrrfectly normal and it sounds better in tunnels!

Thanks, yeah I think it sounds pretty mean... will have to try it in a tunnel. Out of curiosity, what causes the sound? Is it the turbo?

I wondered this too, and was recently told it is the sound of the turbo venting air to the exhaust during shifts, by way of a waste gate. That's why you only hear it during harder accelerations -- i.e. for shifts while the turbo is doing its thing.

Yup, waste gate pop! Ain't it great? Fissues is right: nail the throttle in a tunnel or next to a wall. Suh-weet...

If you like the sound with the OEM exhaust, you'll love it with a Milltek DP and exhaust at WOT !!

This is a misfire, and it gets recorded on the ECU, three probabilities of getting it fixed. Spark plugs, Coil Packs or the worst, the exhaust springs. They are known issues on the TTS.

No, I think he's talking about the normal "fart" sound it makes when shifting at RPMs. I loved the 80's Audi IMSA cars chip when shifting.....but hate those blow off valves in todays turbo cars.....it's almost as bad as a those bucket sized chain saw exhaust every rice burner had a few years ago-awful.

TTS isn't bad....just need to be louder. I love the tunnel going into the Daytona International Speedway in my old R32...it was awesome---can't wait till this years 24 Hours with the TTS.
