Glove Box won't latch

Glove Box won't latch
The push rods that fit into the glove box side wall recesses won't stay extend as if the spring mechanism or whatever provides the force to push them out is not working... I just opened the door and when I went to close it, it no longer functions... I can manually extract the little rods (pins) that are supposed to fit into the side wall recesses, but there's no resistance and they just slide back into the glove box door cover when I try to close the door? Any suggestions?

Continuing the story.... ordered new latch from local dealer (they matched the online part $) and scheduled 1/2 hour service to install it.... after installation, door is still inoperative...side pins won't stay extended... service now says need new glove box .... I asked about just replacing the door which is less than the cost of a new box, using online pricing ($165 vs $266).. dealer says yes, but it's one hour labor to replace box, 1.5 hours to replace just the door as box must be removed for that... Now the labor cost at the dealership is a whopping $300/hr, so that a newly installed glove box is $566 + taxes + a dealer add on fee of $50 for what they call WASTE/SUPPLIES.... which they say is a fixed % of the ticket cost not to exceed $50.... ($50 for shop towels, spray lubricants, top off fluids, etc).... just replacing the glove box door would be ($165 + $450 labor + all the add-on fees)...you can about bet in the future, unless it's something only the dealer can service, I'll be looking to the VW dealership or our local mechanic shop (which has provided good service on our other vehicles).... for service, for both the TT and my Q3.
