Default Map Updates

Why is updating the satnav maps sooooooo complicated!!!!! No clear instructions and certainly no mention of needing Java installed on your computer. Last year I pieced together information found on various forums and managed to do it. This year did exactly the same thing, but the MMI in the car said no data on SD card. Tried a few times and no luck. There seems to be a lot more folders in the download this year, but again no clear instructions. COME ON AUDI SORT OUT YOUR ACT!!!!

This thread may help (Post 26 and on), although the procedure/files as you cite may have changed somewhat: https://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...161-MAP-Update

Note the details on how the files must be arranged on the SD card.

[Once you have Java properly installed, just double click on the downloaded/compressed file "downloader-fc365f29-a635-4f07-a749-cbad3dde1319.jnlp"

You'll then get the two folders and two files cited above which then must be placed at the root of and alone on an SDHC which has been MSDOS FAT32 formatted.]

Or you can point to the SDCARD for the destination when downloading and it will automatically copy the files correctly to it.

Unfortunately, JNLP handling was removed from all currently supported Java levels (unless you pay Oracle an outrageous license fee), so the downloads are unusable unless you revert to an old JVM. I notified Audi USA about this over a year ago, but whomever I was talking to on the phone didn’t really get it.

Thanks. You've just convinced me not to get the tech package and save some significant $. I'll stick with Waze and a phone holder. Virtual dash is big in the WOW department but in the end it is just a gimmick and is probably cheaper for Audi to make nowadays than a standard cluster

I just tested this again. Logged in to MyAudi, went to Map update, download the file, opened in (This is a Mac), and it downloaded no issues at all. About 90 seconds to get the download running.

Default Map Updates

Thanks for all the replies. So it seems that when I download the updates I should have four things:
Folder titled Mib2
Folder titled Mib1
0231001A.md5
metainfo2.txt

However what I got was two folders 'Mib1' and 'Mib2'. The file named 'metainfo2.tx' was inside the folder 'Mib2' and there's no file named '0231001A.md5' anywhere. I'll try downloading again, but in the meantime does anyone have any suggestions?

The file/folder naming convention and volume likely changed with the current download from when my referenced Audizine 'tutorial' was posted. Go with whatever is currently extracted.

Default Mao Updates

Yes!!! After the third attempt the two folders titled Mib1 and Mib2 downloaded with the two files 0231001A.md5 and metainfo2.txt. Then I put them on a 64GB SD card and downloaded into the car successfully.

What a palaver!!

Thanks for your help

Does anyone know if the map download is specific to car model? I've updated my TT but wondering if I can update wife's 2018 Q5 as well.
