Default MMI and Map Version Updates

Hi everyone, I've just bought a 2017 TTS, Vegas Yellow, and I am loving it. I also have a 2005 A8L. On the TTS, I see I have MMI 0695 and Maps NAR 2016/2017. So I am guessing neither has been updated since the car was first sold.

I've done several MMI and Map updates on the A8L, so I have some experience....my understanding is that Map downloads are OTA and are available if I subscribe to Audi Connect. True? Can the map be updated any other way?

For MMI, how do I update to the latest version? And what is the latest version in North America?

Thanks for your help

as far as I know, no OTA updates are available for the TT (or at least for the ROW models, guess the same for US models too); if it works like in Europe, you have to download the map update from myaudi in a SD card and then put it in the MMI and start the update manually.
To update the MMI, you have to find the update from somewhere in the net and do a similar task, but be aware that EU update versions don't work on US cars (and viceversa)

The TT MMI/Nav does not support OTA like most Audi's and must be updated via SD memory card. Audi used to support creating update memory cards from the MyAudi site but depreciated that capability. The dealer service folks can create and update card but some dealers charge for the service. Some folks claim they have hassled Audi enough to get one via the 800 number. I would call Audi and find out what the policy de jour is today.

Thanks McTTRS. Yeah I've been reading the threads on this topic and it seems the process is a pain. I have found sources on the Internet for the download files (2 files plus two MIB folders) but I've also seen that you can't go more than 5 versions ahead of what you currently have? I'll call the 800 number at Audi and see what they say.

Just talked to someone at the Audi 800 number. and the story is basically what McTTRS said...there are 5 free map updates, within 3 years of the production date (for me that was CW 35/2016). They said these are "use it or lose it" and directed me to the local dealer to provide the map files....and "they may charge you for that." Seems strange that the car has never been updated and they were willing to offer 5 free updates, but since it's more than 3 years after the car was built, that deal is off the table. Which brings me back to my question about map update files found online? Has anyone done their updates that way?

Without the key to allow updates beyond what your are entitled to, the map update files are useless. The key is entered by Audi when the car is connected to their diagnostic system and updates a hashed value in the MMI software. Once that is done, then you can use the update files.

I think the cheapest I have seen for a map update was $295 + labor.

the map updates can be unlocked quite easily… there are people here in europe that do this for 50/100 eur, while others do by themselves following the tutorials available on other forums….

Not sure why you want to spend any time or money hacking together a poor navigation system unless you did not have an iPhone and CarPlay capability. Apple Maps with the latest release supports mutil-point routing

and I have abandoned the Audi nav on my 22 TT RS in favor of Apple Maps with CarPlay.

Since the car map has never been updated, wouldn't it still have 5 map updates available to it? MMI probably tracks the number of updates and stops at 5. On the other hand, it does have Carplay and I do have an iPhone and Siri does a pretty good job of taking me places. I guess I could still enjoy the VC without using it for navigation.

Did you forget about 'within 3 years of the production date'?
