Don't know if you've tried any coding yet, but on the Mk5 R32 there was a flash to pass feature with the halogen headlights that only worked by changing the region coding in the ECU from US to UK with a VAG COM or similar tool. I'm sure the coding is more complicated these days and it might be a little optimistic to think it would be that simple, but might be worth a test if you can just revert to US if it doesn't work. (Disclaimer, I don't have nav in my R32. Not sure if there are any negatives to other systems that might use region coding.)

Here is a video of the USA OLED taillights so you can see the difference. Basically, USA version is boring.

Yep, that is pretty boring. Too bad they restricted them here. Hopefully someone will figure out how to make them work as intended.

The 2018 North American TT RS has a physically different tail light. You cannot make them animated and must swap the whole unit out if you want animation.
