Basic VAG-COM Logging set-up for a 2000 B5?

I purchased the VAG-COM cable and software for my 2000 B5 S4. I've seen lots of nice logging files, plots, etc on the forum.

Any links on how I get started? I think I recall seeing a really nice live computer screen output with on-screen gages when someone previously logged my car. Getting any info on how to set up my notebook computer screen and any tips on plotting in excel would be very helpful.

The typical engine and performance stuff, ECU Target and actuals on Ignition Timing, Turbo Boost, MAF, Intake Air Temp, A/F ratio, O2 Voltages, Fuel Injector Duty Cycle, Knock Sensor voltage, Acceleration, FATS, etc.

I'm having a lot of trouble logging. The sampling rate is really slow, and I get a whole bunch of "No response from controller!" messages that completely kick me out of the logging set-up screen, ugh!

I was getting kicked out of the logging set-up screen so quickly that I only had time to select some of the Basic Groups in the main measuring blocks screen.

So far I'm really disappointed with the performance of this product...
