Coding Help - Equipment Number Invalid
I've not changed the equipment number at all and as you can see it is already pre-populated as a value outside of the listed limits already.
Any ideas on a solution?
See here: http://www.ross-tech.com/vcds/tour/o...creen.html#WSC and also the bottom of this page: http://www.ross-tech.com/vcds/tour/a...on_screen.html
Some control modules will refuse being recoded if they're not given an equipment number (sometimes they require a non-zero WSC and Importer number too).
The default value is 00000.
Some control modules do not allow themselves to be Coded with the default 00000 Equipment number in place.
VCDS should prompt you with a message to input non-zero values in such cases.
You should NOT make such changes in the Options screen itself.
So I would suggest putting 12345 in the WSC and trying it again.
Let us know if that works.
According to Ross-Tech it appears that I should leave that as-is:
"Note: If you are an individual user or independent mechanic, just leave the WorkShop Code set to "00000". This allows VCDS to operate in “stealth” mode, keeping whatever WSC that was already in the controller."
My problem is the Equipment Number... It reads 892928 which is above the limit specified by VCDS (0-262143). The exact error is is follows:
VCDS: Re-Code Invalid
This equipment number is invalid!
Equipment number must be 5-6 digits: 00000-262143
What is the Equipment Number in the options screen of VCDS set to ?
I could be wrong, but think that is an arbitrary number to identify the machine at the 'workshop'
Mine is all zeros

Good point, I'll check it out this evening and post back. I've found this issue one other time on a VW forum and the suggesting was to change it to 12345. The solution worked but seems sketchy IMO.
Any suggestions on a solution?
When you check channel 17-Instruments coding, what are the parameters set at aside from the software coding... specifically the equipment number. Is it safe for me to change?
Post up a full Auto Scan text, maybe I can get a better idea.
Failing changing it to mine or something random, contacting Ross-Tech.
Before doing anything make sure to save/copy your full Auto Scan so you can go back.

Looks like all the WSC & Importer are zeroed out but the equipment number is 892928. Again, this is weird because that number falls outside of the available range to set it in VCDS. Seems to me that if it's only a shop number that i'd be cool to change it to 12345 or something similar. Logically it doesn't make sense that this would affect the performance of the channel.
