Default I have a Sym II radio from a 02 Allroad in my B5 - Can anyone tell

me what I should recode the radio to? For the record I have searched and recoded several times, even with TeddyBGame last night, and my main problem is the radio powers itself off then on while driving or while parked. It does this radomly.

Default Does not sound like a coding problem....

The symptom is likely a loose connection in the harness, either the power +vdc or the ground wire.
Is the harness under any strain with the HU installed? There are two +vdc connections, the always hot "30", and the switched "15". either of those could cause this problem if there is a loose connection somewhere, provoked if the harness is under strain.
Does the problem occur if the car is not being driven, and is parked with the key ON, engine OFF? Have you scanned the radio for DTCs?

Default pulled the following DTC's from the radio this morning

Tuesday,27,November,2007,06:21:36:14204
VAG-COM Version: Release 704.1

Address 56: Radio
Control Module Part Number: 4B0 035 195 J
Component and/or Version: symphony II NP2 0050
Software Coding: 02007
Work Shop Code: WSC 00000
2 Faults Found:

00858 - Connection; Radio ZF Output to Antenna Amplifier
44-00 - Short Circuit
00857 - CD Changer Unit (R41)
49-00 - No Communications

Additionally I was just over at TeddyBGame's house over the weekend as he built me a custom harness to go from my old Sym I to this Sym II so I'd like to believe the wiring is ok but of course I could be wrong. Yes the problem occurs when the car is not being driven, key on, engine off. Oh and I should mention I can not get the radio to display in the cluster like my old Sym I did.

Default The Sym II outputs RDS channel/title/artist data to the cluster via CAN buss...

I don't know if that can be accommodated by a work around for the B5 cluster display. The other issue of shutting OFF, then ON again, may be related to the function provided where the radio stays ON for a fixed time interval or until the key is removed or the driver's door is opened before the time out occurs. With the Sym II I had in my B6 A4, when the key was turned OFF with the radio ON, the radio would turn OFF with the key, but could be turned back ON again, with the key OFF, by pressing the control ****, and would stay ON with the key OFF, as long as the driver's door was not opened. I will look at the wiring diagrams and see if I can find any connections that may be involved with that. The function relies on information on the door switch state and key switch state available to the HU. The OFF/ON symptom may be related to the missing key switch and or door switch state info at the HU, and the HU OFF time out function. As implemented on the Sym II, the switch state info to the HU, is via CAN buss, I am not familiar with the way the Sym I implementation is configured.

Default My Sym I to Sym II was followed using the steps outlined at

www.nsxjr.com - which has a lot of information provided from TeddyBGame. My Sym I does the same where I can have the key out of the ignition and turn the radio on and then it shuts itself off over a period of time. This would all be irrelevent since the radio power cycles while the car is running i.e. driving down the road.

Default I will review that reference. ....

Maybe the connections for the after play/switch state info sensed by the Sym II, is intermittant/loose connecton, somewhere.

Default Try coding "01001"...

Coding 01001 provides:

Diversity box connected (related to ZF shorted DTC?), CD changer not connected, (related to CD communications DTC?), No Navigation, telephone or SBS, Fader active, No Bose display, No amp mute with telephone call, A4.

The current coding 02007 is for A6/Allroad, with diversity box, CD changer, and MFSW connected/installed.

Default The procedure explained in the referenced info, regarding the "CLK" and "DATA" ....

wires being moved to the CAN HI and CAN LOW terminal positions in the IC connector T32c, is for an A6 IC, does the B5 A4 IC wiring diagram show the same CAN connections at T32c/5 and T32c/6?
