Problems connecting VAG-COM to a S4
Were trying to connect a VAG-COM to a 2000 S4 but it says it will not interface with the engine module. It interfaces with trans, HVAC, etc.... just fine but will not interface with 01 (Engine)It interfaces fine withon 1999.5 A4 2.8 but will not interface with the S4. The VAG-COM version is 311.2-U, which is the newest version. Is there a certain setting in VAG-COM you need to interface with the S4? The S4 doesn't even show up on the model list in VAG-COM. If anyone has any suggestions or help that would be great thanks. Also the car is GIAC chipped, so would that be causing a problem?

It's a serial cable with a USB adapter to the Laptop. We were using the B5 A4 setting. It would interface with the trans, HVAC, etc.., but would not with the Engine. It is GIAC chipped however, so would that make a difference?

Your problem is almost certainly the Serial<->USB adapter.
Most of the stuff in the S4 and almost all the stuff in the older A4 communicates at 9600 bps. But the engine in the S4 communicates at 10400, which is a non-standard baud rate, not supported by many (most?) USB<->Serial converters. That's one of the reasons why we DO NOT SUPPORT the use of VAG-COM through any such converter. Click the link for more info.

Thanks. I'll have to see if I can find someone with a laptop with a serial port or maybe I'll just buy a extension cord and use my home PC. Thanks again.
