recoding question...

I have a 2000 1.8t QM that has ECU # 4B0 906 018 P and a replacement ECU # 4B0 906 018 BG.
Is it possible to recode the "BG" so that it is a direct replacement for the "P" ??
if so where can I find the procedure for doing this? Any advice would be much appreicated.

No, you cannot change that using VAG-COM.

In general, only replace a part with one that has EXACTLY the same part number (all of the numbers and letters) unless you have it on good authority that those two parts are interchangeable.

well Andy - thanks for the info! I did get this ECU a while back from Audi

and it is supposed to be a direct replacement, but I will have to check further on that.

Looks like one of those is for FWD and one is for AWD vehicles.

more info? I have tried talking local audi dealer with part # and they are not sure..

it looks as though this is for a 2000 1.8t ATW with manual/quattro that has now been superseeded, but they are not completely sure. I guess I could just try and plug it in and see if it runs the car?? thoughts?
