WOW, you have a lot of faults. Are U aware of it?

Has the sat radio been OK up to now? I'm in the NE USA and my reception might be characterized as spotty when driving under trees, which is frequent along my routes. I know my VCDS scan almost always shows a fault on the radio. I think it says intermittent communication error. I clear it and it comes back soon.

When I renewed my subscription a few months ago, I complained about the spotty reception and the person on the phone did something to re-initialize (perhaps not the correct term) my radio, it took a good 5 mins or longer. I don't believe it improved the radio's performance at all.

 

Reception seems to vary by car and location, but I agree that there are a lot of errors being recorded in my novice opinion: Solenoid Valve, Short to Plus (an electrical short??), NAV, DVD, etc. Maybe there's an electrical problem somewhere that is causing multiple errors?

 

i knew about the solenoid, Nav and SAT Rad errors... the others are new. i am currently trying to work out the SatRad issue and will work on the others so ANY and ALL advice on any faults is GREATLY appreciated. Back to SAT.. Sat worked great last year i remember driving thru streets almost completely covered from old tree growth from both sides of the street and the whole length of the street forming one huge tunnel and my reception was GREAT. even going from burbs thru downtown again no loss. now seems like past few moths my reception has degraded progressively. it had gotten so bad i let Sirius expire, this week i responded to a promotion and reactivated my account. the day i called it was cloudy w rain and i could not receive the activation signal at all. the next day the 1st part of day no rain but overcast the 2nd half was hazy and still could not receive signal. finally on a clear night sky i called the automated line to resend the activation signal and it finally was received. well u can guess i loose reception under just about every overpass, large trees or tall bldgs. i believe that Sirius has a delay or oversampling (sim to anti skip) to help with signal drops but maybe this can only go so far... i live minutes from the shore and work at the shore... i should have above avg line of sight (see pics)

i am hoping i have a frayed or loose wire n i should open her up to look
but its looking like my antenna is broken n i should buy a replacement

what does all this indicate?

ive been doing searches and i think my next step may be running a test on "measuring blocks" can anyone advise steps for this? should i run test w car facing SW when i have issue or N when signal is successfully transferring?

 

NAV Fault

there is a TSB on the nav unit...im thinking mine was never replaced when veh was under warranty.

i get "check DVD" error MMI display will freeze up while in Nav mode and give error then sometimes return back functioning normally but will freeze up again moments laters (oddly the DIS display in elec dash cluster still functions giving me step by step arrowed directions and audible turns

some say either a bad burn on disk or bad nav unit

 

I don't know anything about diagnosing this system. Sometimes there are problems with the connection to the antenna (rust, corrosion, etc.) leading to poor performance prior to total failure. Maybe this is what you are seeing.

People in the center of the USA are at a distinct advantage with the Sirius thing - - the satellite must be held over the center of the country. I'm kind of on the coastal fringes and suffer frequent drop outs. FWIW, I've read a lot of comments about this issue on different car forums. I've seen many comments that suggets the Euro cars suffer the worst.

 

I have linking problems also. I suggest the following:
Open VCDS in your car with the sat radio on. Select control module OF which should be found in the "Electronics 2" tab at the top.

Select Measuring Blocks 08. Use the up/down button to put a block in a group. The ones of interest are blocks 5 and 8. The definitions are in the label file at the upper left. Your block 8 may differ from the VCDS label definition by indicating a different value in the second and third position. My understanding is that if it displays 194, the respective antenna is OK.

This is amateur info based on my experience with my OF module. Go to the Ross-Tech home page and select "Manual" at the top. It is interactve and is very helpful to learn how to navigate into measuring blocks, just ignore the data supplied as examples.

I hope I haven't told you more than you wanted to know. By the way, I haven't solved my problem. I would like find a known good OF module to try and determine if it is the module or not because the antennas and the fiber optics are OK..
