Default Help needed in understanding this statement ....

"Our light alloy wheels are aquipped with a centre ring in order to verify the centrebore. By this way our wheels fit on all European and Asian cars."
The above statement is from the website of Rondell wheels in Germany. They have a replica of the Audi 5-spoke wheel (Rondell Design 52) that is available in 17" x 8" size with 35 mm offset. However, the above statement worries me into thinking that they use spacers and that the wheel is not hub centric.
In case anyone is interested, here's a link to their web site:

Rondell GmbH

Default It's just a Hubcentric spacer, kinda like. . . .

the way trash collectors are now "Sanitation Engineers" even though it's still the same thing everyone else uses (including BBS). It's actually important that it has close tolerances, otherwise it just defeats its purpose.
"a centre ring in order to verify the centrebore" - Uhhhhh, yeah, that thing. . . .snicker....

Default They probably are some sort of spacer (more)....

My 18" Niche Pultecs don't have the correct centerbore for my car either. The correct
centerbore for the A4 is 57.1mm or something like that. Anyway, the centerbore of
my Niche's is probably about 10 or 12mm larger in diameter. So, I was provided with
plastic spacers (they kinda look like huge washers) to insert into the wheel before I put
the wheel on the car. Without these spacers, it is hard to mount the wheels (you have
to hold all the weight up to line up just one lug bolt hole). With the spacer, you set
the wheel on the hub, then rotate freely to line up holes. Works just as good as if they
were fitted correctly. With or without the spacer, torqueing down the lug bolts brings
the wheel into proper hubcentric alignment. I never felt any vibration that woulda
been caused by this misalignment.
BUT, I'm really glad I have the spacers now, for changing into race tires for autocrosses
and such.
Corey S
Wett 97 1.8tqm

Not tolally agree. Without hub rings your car would be shaking, tumbling shortly after you drive off. Those hub rings keep your wheel aligned with lug holes (NT.)

Default I know what you mean, Nick, but I changed wheels/tires 3 times at autocrosses without the spacers and I had to problems.

Both the ball seat and acorn style lug bolts pull the wheel pretty darn well into hub-
centric alignment. I know it's not good to run that way for long, but it worked just fine
until I got the set of hub rings that Niche forgot to give me.
Corey S
Wett 97 1.8tqm

The end of that last subject line should read, "I had NO problems".

Default Please give some details ...

I have sent several e-mails to Rondell but have not received any responses. Can you please provide model, pricing and shipping info for your set of wheels. Thanks a bunch!

Default Not ordered from Rondell (more)

Rondell answered my e-mail request for an export price for a set of wheels, and the quoted prices were *great,* but the FedEx or UPS international shipping charges were *very high.* The wheels still would've been a bargain purchased directly from Rondell in this way, but I think that they're really set up only to do wholesale transactions directly from the warehouse, as they also told me that their terms were ex-warehouse -payment in advance, probably by bank transfer-shipping to be arranged by purchaser.
I did find an alloy wheels supplier in the UK (Wheelpower - not sure of the URL, but their phone number is 011-44-1803-314443) that will sell me a set of Rondell 'A' (what they call the Audi 5-spoke replica referred to as #52 in the Rondell WWW site.) They quoted a price of £110 for an 8 x 17 wheel, complete with hardware. Shipping for a set would be about £75-80. If you do the math, this is still a good deal for a set of German-made alloys, which, in a size (with this much-loved design) not generally available in the States or Canada (although Alessio have a model called the 'Star,' which also looks like the Audi 5-spoke and is available in a 17" size.)
