Tire availability
My 2004 A6 came with
ContiTouringContact 205-55-R16 91H. i nstill have an unused one on the spare. I really only need 3 new ones. My question is: how would I find out if they were still available?

Are you sure of that size?...
The OEM tire for your car is 215/55/16.
But to answer your question, yes, that tire is still available. Rather than use a five year old spare mixed in with three new tires (that are a mediocre type at best and the wrong size for the car if it is a quattro) you may want to consider getting four of something that is better in the correct 215/55R16 size. For example the Sumitomo HTRH4 has higher ratings in nearly every area but a price for four of those won't be much more than three of the CH95 tires. The car is a CVT. It was purchased new in California in October 2003.
If it has the wrong tires on it, then Audi did it. Maybe the Quattro came with the larger tire.
Except for the wear, they have performed OK.
What's the source for the 205 not being the normal tire on a new 2004 A6?
I've always had Michelin, last set on a 100 and they wore at the same rate and I hated the ride as well as the poor performance in wet.
I drove Peugeots and Renaults for 30 years that all had Michelins all the time and am familiar with them. I still like the Conti.

Actually, it looks like you're correct. 2004 A6 3.0 FWD came with 205/55/16 as OEM...
For those that want to check, see page 2 and page 5 of the spec sheet below.
