tire interference
Just installed Birdgstone RE730 235 45 17 on Stock S4 rims, getting some rubbing when turning on the right rear only. Any ideas if this should be happening, any ideas on what I can do to cure it other then buy new tires. Seems to be rubbing onthe upper control arm, can see no rub marks on tire though.

I know others have done it, but...
235/45-17 is .65" bigger in diameter than 225/45-17. Some of the suspension parts are already close with the stock tires, so any increase in size (diameter or width) could create a problem.<p><a href="http://www.users.uswest.net/~craiger/a4main.htm">

I think the problem is that you should have gone 235/40/17's instead of 45. Check out donP's website

when is I used the tire calculator in the link I came up with :
225/45-17 diameter 25.o inches
235/45-17 diameter 25.3 inches
235/40-17 diamter 24.4 inches
Others have used 235/45 but they put int on a wider 8 or 8.5 inch rim which for sure stretches the tire differently.
Oh well, at least the RE730 is a great tire, should be able to sell these to someone and buy the 40 series or go back to 225/45

Oops...my math was wrong...
225/45 = 24.97" dia
235/45 = 25.32" dia
I subtracted wrong in my head (...duh). The difference is .35". I think the problem is the offset. Most people running wider tires probably have aftermarket wheels with a lower offset (wheel sits further out).<p><a href="http://www.users.uswest.net/~craiger/a4main.htm">
