Audi A4 B7: How to Replace Air Filter

Changing the air filter on your Audi is very important, so your little go-buggy will continue to perform at its best. The maintenance schedule seems a bit long, so having a look every once and again on the condition of your air filter won't harm a thing. It's amazing the amount of dirt and debris which can end up in the air box, mainly due to the design. Take yours apart and see for yourself.

There are plenty of different air filters out there you can purchase, whether performance, like the K&N, or just a stock replacement. What you decide to change it to is up to you, but changing it on time, or even earlier, is a good thing. Changing out the filter on an Audi A4 B7 is very easy. In a few simple steps you can have yours out and done. A clean air filter will provide your engine with the ability to take in as much air as it can use. A dirty filter will leave your Audi feeling weak and tired. To enjoy your Audi to the utmost, this little job is a must.

Materials Needed

  • Cross-tipped (Phillips) screwdriver
  • Filter

Step 1 – Detach the Intake

Lift the hood and support it. On the passenger side of the core support (Figure 1), unscrew the two screws holding the intake hose in place. Pull up on the other end of the air intake to remove, then set aside.

Step 2 – Unscrew housing screws

There are two screws which hold the air box together (Figure 2). Unscrew these, but don't remove them all the way.

Step 3 – Detach wires

There is a group of wires which runs along the outside of the airbox (Figure 3). Pull out the pins and move the wire bunch towards the engine.

Step 4 – Remove and replace air filter

Pull the side of the air box closest to the engine away from its mount. There is a hose at the back of the filter housing, which may need to be moved due to slight interference. Reach inside and remove the air filter. Replace all parts in the same order you removed them in. Remember that the filter should go with the seal towards the engine side of the filter housing.
