Intro

Audi has been building amazing vehicles for well over 100 years. And they have sold vehicles here in the U.S. for over 50 years. Many of these vehicles have caught the eye of collectors and have already, or will in the future, increase in value. With that in mind, we picked ten Audi vehicles that we think make excellent collectibles. We chose a mix of models that are already classics as well as newer models that we think will become classics someday. Now, we must offer our standard disclaimer. Buy the car that you love, not the one you think will make you rich. You should buy an Audi because you love the model. There are plenty of much better financial instruments besides cars to invest in. However, it is always a fun exercise to look at which vehicles may hold or increase in value over the years. So, with that in mind, here is our list.

10. 1994 – 1996 Audi RS2 Avant

Are you trying to decide between buying a Porsche or an Audi? Well, you can buy the RS2 Avant and have both! This car had the engine massaged by Porsche, and it uses Porsche brakes, wheels, fog lights, and several other bits. Of course, it has plenty of Audi DNA as well. It was the first Audi model to break the 155-mph barrier. Less than 2,900 of these were ever made so they are uncommon and historic. Values are already on the rise and are unlikely to go down anytime soon.

9. 2022 Audi TT RS

In 2022 Audi made the best and last TT. For years the TT was a style icon, but it didn’t quite have the performance chops to compete with the likes of the Porsche Cayman. But that changed with the TT RS. The turbocharged 5-cylinder made 394 horsepower and could launch the car to 60 mph in less than 3.5 seconds. The TT RS has the style and performance to make it a collectible for years to come.

8. 1980 Audi Quattro

This may well be THE definitive Audi. With an eye towards rally racing Audi decided an all-wheel drive setup would offer significant advantages. They were right. The Audi Quattro had a 2.1L 5-cylinder turbocharged engine under the hood and of course quattro all-wheel drive. This is a game changing car, and game changing cars are always collectible.

7. 2023+ Audi RS 3

This is one of the best performance bargains on the market right now. For about 70 grand you get a well-equipped sedan that can get to 60 mph in the low 3-second range. And if you really want to press the car you can order the optional Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R super sticky tires. Audi (or really anyone for that matter) will not be making cars like this for much longer. Sure, EVs will be even quicker but they won’t have that raucous soundtrack and emotion that we have with the RS 3. This car will be a future classic so buy one while you can.

6. 1985 – 1986 Audi Quattro Turbo Sport

Getting one of these is likely to set you back nearly half a million dollars. But depreciation is a thing of the past with this model, and you are buying a legend. One reason these are so expensive is that only 214 of them were ever made. They were built by Audi for homologation purposes as the company wanted to compete in the FIA World Rally Championship with it. You are basically buying a race car with a 302 horsepower 5-cylinder engine enhanced by a big turbocharger. You also get body panels made of Kevlar and four-wheel anti-lock brakes. Collectible or not, this is one of the coolest Audi vehicles ever made.

5. 2024 Audi RS 5 Competition Coupe

Compared to the Quattro Turbo Sport the RS 5 Coupe is tame. But in reality, the RS 5 is a great-looking coupe with a serious performance punch. Especially if you spring for the optional Competition package with the sport exhaust, reduced sound deadening, improved steering, and a firmer suspension. Under the hood is a 2.9L twin turbo V-6 making 444 horsepower. With a top speed of 180 mph and a 0 to 60 sprint around 3.5 seconds, it has all the performance you need. Ten years from now we will be yearning for a car like this.

4. 1985 Audi Sport Quattro S1

It is not hyperbole to call the Audi Sport Quattro S1 the greatest rally car in history. The wild exterior, the power, the sound all makes this car one of the best ever. It competed in the mighty Group B era of rally racing and it dominated. This is easily a seven-figure car so it might not be for everyone. But if you are a serious collector with a serious budget this car has to be on your list.

3. 2024 Audi RS 6 Avant performance

Who doesn’t love a fast wagon? Those of us in the U.S. are often denied the tasty performance wagons that other parts of the world get to enjoy. But we lucked out with the Audi RS 6 Avant. The last few years have offered 591 horsepower, but for 2024, the performance model ramps that figure up to 621 ponies. With a 48-volt mild hybrid system supplementing the 4.0L twin turbo V-8, it will get you and your kids and your luggage to 60 mph in less than 3 seconds. Think of this as a modern RS2 Avant, only with more performance, technology, and luxury than that car could ever dream of.

2. 1970 Audi 100 Coupe S

This is the oldest Audi on the list. In 1970 Audi introduced a sleek fastback, two-door coupe known as the 100 Coupe S. And unlike many of the cars on this list, it is not a powerful or fast car. However, it is lovely to look at and cars from this era have a different look and feel to them that is not replicated on newer models. Over 30,000 of these were made but many were eaten by rust so finding one in decent shape will not be easy. Of course, you will likely never see another one at your local cars and coffee either. This is a low-cost way to enter the world of collectible Audis.

1. 2023 Audi R8 GT

2023 is the final year of the R8 super car. Audi is sending it off with a special R8 GT model. The V-10 engine sends 602 horsepower to the rear wheels. That makes it the most powerful rear-drive Audi in history. Only 333 of these final models will be made with just 150 coming to the U.S. Dealers will most likely have their ADM claws out for any they may have available. But these cars will likely never depreciate a dime. However, they are so wonderful to drive, if you do get one, we highly recommend you don’t store it in a garage and never drive it. Enjoy the car. Audi will never again make anything like it.

And if you can't get one of these final models, almost every R8 is a dream machine. Especially the V10 variants.
