Looking to take a bite

Aimed right at the market segment enjoyed by the BMW X2 and Merc GLA is the "coupe" version of the Q3. This new small CUV is quite striking with attractive creases, a sloping roofline, and smaller dimensions that lend itself to being more of a lithe sprinter than a hulking pugilist.

The differences

The Sportback has been lengthed by around 2/3rds of an inch over the normal Q3 and is 1.1 inches lower but the width of the two remain equal. The aforementioned design lines that the Sportback has over the normal Q3 has such as the shoulder line now cuts through the door handles which is in contrast to above them.

If it ain't broke...

Taking things into the cabin, the interior is virtually unchanged from the normal Q3 except for the loss of headroom due to that lowered roofline. There is understandably less storage room offered with this being more of an urban trek vehicle over other options like a Q7 in which you can stow a number of large items.

Decent enough power levels

For powerplants the Sportback is available from the get-go with a Sportback 45 TFSi quattro S Tronic mated to a 2.0-liter turbo inline-four producing 226 horsepower. Other options will be two different flavors of two 2.0-liter diesel making 187 and 147 horsepower each.

Hmmmm

Audi has said that the 2020 Q3 Sportback will go on sale in Europe this fall priced reasonably at just 40,200 euro  ($45,000). For the cheapest variant with the quattro system, the price will start at 46,200 euro ($52,000). At the time of this article, there is no mention of the Q3 Sportback arriving here in the states.
