5 Audi Options for Bargain Hunters

If you're looking for the most legendary Audi performance from the least amount of money, look no further than these five underappreciated gems.

Audi A8 (2003-2009)
Audi TT (2002-2006)
Audi Allroad 2.7T (2001-2005)
Audi S4 (2005-2009)
Audi R8 V8

1. Audi A8/S8 (2003-2009)

Audi's full size, range topping A8 was designed to do battle with the likes of the BMW 7-Series and Mercedes-Benz S-Class. It featured conservative yet attractive styling and a number of enticing engine options, which includes the awesome  4.2-liter V8 making a healthy 335 bhp. If you opt for the S8 (introduced in 2007), you get the even more incredible 444 bhp from a 5.2 liter V-10 from a redesigned version of the engine that calls the Lamborghini Gallardo home.  Best of all, they're available for pennies on the dollar compared to the car's original asking price of about $138,000. Good examples are now selling for closer to $15,000 these days.

2. Audi TT (2002-2006)

If you're a fan of wind-in-the-hair excitement in a fine looking package, it's hard to go wrong with a first or second generation Audi TT. The first gen cars featured a unique style that was toned down a bit for the second generation, so you can pick your personal favorite here. Both, however, are ridiculously cheap, whether you opt for the coupe or the breezy convertible. You can find them for under $10,000.

3. Audi Allroad 2.7T (2001-2005)

The original Audi Allroad was spawned from the 2nd gen A6 Avant in 2001 and offered a tempting alternative to the average SUV. This was an A6 wagon that had (air adjustable) ride height high enough to take to the ski club, with plastic body cladding, flared fenders, and all-terrain tires. Today, it's still a good looking ride that packs decent power, even by today's standards - 250 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque from a turbo V6. You can get them for a fraction of the original $40,000 price tag, like 1/10th.

4. Audi S4 (2005-2009)

The S4 has always been a fantastic performance sedan, and B7 generation cars (2005-2009) offer up the same 340 hp 4.2 liter V8 as the RS4 from that generation. They also look fantastic, and are readily available for $20,000 or less. If you increase your budget a little more, you can pick up a more current B8 with a blown V6, and the fantastic Sport Rear Differential and active-damping suspension that helps reduce understeer.

5. Audi R8 V8

Alright, so no R8 is what most people would consider "cheap", but if you opt for a used one with the 4.2 liter V8, you're going to get a bargain price compared to the more powerful V10 models. Even though the V8 down on power compared to its brethren, you're still getting a glorious supercar that has plenty of power and a glorious polished gate shifter. Besides, most people can't tell the V10 from the V8 at a glance, so you get $100,000 of prestige for just $80,000.
