Audi's City Car of the Future Will Have Living Plants
Audi has built a small electric car designed to be a third living space away from our homes and workplaces. It will provide a serene space with living plants and features that ensure you're as comfortable as possible.
A 3rd Living Space
Audi recently revealed the new AI:ME concept car at the 2019 Shanghai Auto Show. The AI:ME is fully autonomous, electric, and designed to be a third living space for users. Audi calls it the "autonomous city car of the future".

Happy to Spend Time Inside
Audi built a small electric car that passengers would be delighted to spend some time in. The AI:ME is about 170 inches long and 75 inches wide. It has a larger interior than what you'd find in a normal car of its size. The vehicle manufacturer started building from the inside, and let the entire vehicle derive its shape from there.
The car is available with a large wheelbase and a unique architecture due to its electric powertrain. The front and rear axles are placed 9 feet apart.
Appealing to the Senses
Audi's mission is to create an atmosphere that appeals to the user's senses. The car is designed to be a safe haven in the busy and noisy city. The temperature, seat positioning, and ambient lighting are designed to keep you relaxed as you drive through traffic. There's a noise cancellation system that keeps outside noise to a minimum.
Users will also get magnetic plate and cup holders that can be used for eating and drinking. VR goggles will be added for entertainment. Audi claims that interior features will be controlled using eye tracking, touch-sensitive fields, and voice input. As for the front seats, they will feature a living-room lounge setting to provide more comfort. Space offered can accommodate up to 4 passengers.
Audi plans to incorporate living plants into the roof of the AI:ME concept. According to the automaker, this will be the first time vegetation will be used in a car's interior. Climbing plants will cut across a see-through roof in order to improve air quality and bring an aspect of nature into the big city.
Level 4 Autonomy
The AI:ME will be able to self-drive in certain areas. It will include a steering wheel where drivers will be required to take control of the car. In self-driving mode, the wheel folds and a table comes out.
On the outside, the AI:ME can be distinguished by its innovative headlights and side doors that open in opposite directions. In the future, LED lights will be used as a means of communication with other vehicles on the road.
Audi is one of the few automotive manufacturers racing to come up with eco-friendly solutions for the automotive industry. The AI:ME will use a lot of strategies derived from artificial intelligence and machine learning. Other companies that have already showcased similar mobility solutions include Citroen, Seat, and Aston Martin.
